Peter Croft solos Clean Crack, Squamish, 1985.
In the 1980s, Peter Croft emerged as the preeminent free-soloist in North America. At the time this picture was taken, during the summer of 1985, Peter had done a lot of impressive solo ascents, including
The Rostrum (V, 5.11c), as well as many one-day enchainments of big walls. During an interview in El Cap Meadows earlier that year, Peter swore he would never solo Astroman (V, 5.11c) because it was "too thin", but later that summer he
did it. A thin crack master, Peter made Clean Crack (5.11b) look like an afternoon stroll.
