Hugh Herr on City Park, Lower Town Wall, Index, 1986.

I must have gone through a half dozen rolls of film taking photos of Hugh Herr on his second free ascent of City Park, but only two of them were any good, and I somehow lost the other one to a magazine publisher who didn't send it back. Alas! And I nearly lost this one, too, after letting the Prosthetic Research Study use it, but it eventually came back after five years missing. Hugh sort of posed for this shot during a hangdog ascent of the pitch on day two, where he hung twice but otherwise did all the moves free. He was wearing my purple Polo shirt, which contrasted nicely with the green and gray background. A lot of people look at this photo and ask "Is that you?" Of course it is! Look closer, eh?
