Responding to Steve's inquiry, the NE Buttress of Chair Peak is Class 4. If I said Class 3, that's a typo. In the book it says Class 4, and it is really a quintessential Class 4 route: fairly easy rock climbing that's exposed enough that nearly everybody belays. As for climbing it unroped, it depends. I've been known to climb unroped from time to time, although in my "old age" I tend to rope up even on easy climbs. Assuming I remembered to bring a rope.

very nice resource for climbing info., but do you use a different rating system than the one we're used to [as described in Becky's?] it seems strange, for example, to call the n.e. buttress of Chair Peak a "class 3" --would you really do this one off-rope?

Does anyone have any comments about the upper face (south ?) of Mt. Si -- i.e., the haystack, staight up the face and not the walk-around-the-back-and-scramble-up route? It looks to me like several possible lines. Anyone tried? RSVP. Thanks.

How about an erratica for your books. I miss the climb difficulties that were left out of the "Summit Guide".

It's great to see this site become reality. But it's cruel to read these rock climbing stories in November! I really want to be on Castle Rock...:)
